Airlines in U.S. cancelled nearly 700 flights

According to flight-tracking website Flightaware.com, there were 669 cancellations inside, into, or out of the United States. On Sunday, about 860 flights were cancelled. Delta Air Lines, United Airlines Holdings Inc, and Republic Airlines Inc each cancelled over 100 flights, while American Airlines Group Inc cancelled 51 flights.

Airports in Europe have been blamed on a lack of labour, as many workers who were laid off during the epidemic seek flexible working conditions and alternative vocations. Even the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States is experiencing employee shortages. The FAA gave United permission to temporarily reduce Newark flights last week after the Chicago-based carrier requested a waiver citing airport construction and air traffic control personnel. Airlines for America, a trade organization, stated that the FAA must assure appropriate air traffic control staffing to avoid future summer travel difficulties.
